CodeWars PyCon-au 2010
Eight teams, short programming challenges, two projectors, loud crowd.. mildly impressive prizes.
Originally based on an idea from the book PeopleWare, CodeWar has been run in conjunction with the Sydney WebDU conference since 2008 with great success. To help share the mayhem we're proud to bring CodeWar to PyCon-au 2010, with experienced CodeWar compare Robin Hilliard from RocketBoots on the microphone to keep a wry eye on proceedings.

Tourney Rules
The competition will consist of three rounds:
- 8 teams of 4 (or so) people
- 1 laptop per team
- One-on-one knockout rounds of 20min. First team to finish goes through to the next round
- 1st rounds are first-past-the-post programming challenges (Note that programming implies at least some typing source code into a text editor which is then interpreted or compiled),
- 2nd round: free-form "creative" challenge, with the winner decided by audience applause, and
- A final first-past-the-post, slightly more difficult programming challenge.
We guarantee this won't be mind twisting problems for algorithm heads and you can compete with whatever language you want. It will help to have a team with a mix of skills, a clever and/or intimidating team name and vocal cheer squad. However the only thing your team must bring is a single laptop with a VGA connector running in 1024x768 mirrored mode.
For example: "Here is the complete text of pride and prejudice on this usb key. Be the first to print out the 7th and 25th sentances that contain both 'Elizabeth' and 'Darcy'"
